Julia Wolfe: Anthracite Fields — CANCELED

Innovative programming and superb performances since 1949
We begin by joining forces with the Metropolitan Chorale to bring more than 200 voices to Jordan Hall for Mendelssohn’s rarely heard masterpiece Die erste Walpurgisnacht and for remarkable works by Kodály and Janáček.
In December, we renew the joyous holiday tradition of our annual Candlelight Christmas.
Next, we are joined by the dynamic Bang on a Can All-Stars, described by the New York Times as “combining the power and punch of a rock band with the precision and clarity of a chamber ensemble,” in Julia Wolfe’s Pulitzer Prize-winning oratorio Anthracite Fields, which commemorates the lives, labor, and losses of Pennsylvania’s coal miners.
Finally, join us in “the best of all possible worlds” with Bernstein’s modern classic Candide.
