1. Message from Betsy (auditions, remarks about fall concerts)
I’m greatly looking forward to leaping into our second season together, which is just around the corner! It’s been great seeing so many of you at the Summer Sings. If you’ve not been to one, this Monday is our last—Brahms’ delightful Liebeslieder Waltzes, perfect fare for a summer’s eve.
News Items:
=Auditions
If you haven’t re-auditioned yet, do so! Please call the chorus line at 617-267-7442 or email auditions@choruspromusica.org.
If you have re-auditioned, no news is good news—if you have not already received a personal email from me, we’re on for the fall! Jim will contact you to confirm season commitments.
If you have singing friends (who are at least a good as you are), send them our way!
=First Concert
We’re starting up the Monday after Labor Day, on the lyrical Dvorák Mass in D, which we’ll perform with Duruflé’s Notre Père , a reprise of our commission from last year, Rindfleisch’s Kaddish Prayer (great new music deserves a second hearing!), selections from Holst’s Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda (for women & harp), and Janácek’s Otce nás (Our Father, with harp and organ).
=Holiday Concert
Our wonderful guests from last year, the Triton Brass, will be joining us again this season for a concert that will include Stephen Paulus’s We Sing Thy Birth (a Boston premiere), arrangements by Mack Wilberg, traditional fare and candles!
=Andrea Bocelli
A group of 60 will be singing back up for Andrea Bocelli on Dec. 5—the first half of the program consists of opera excerpts, the second half holiday music. There will be two extra rehearsals for this gig plus the concert itself. More on that in the near future, but what fun!
All for now, and looking forward to seeing you all soon!
Betsy

2. 2010–2011 Dues
After 8 years of no increase in chorus member dues, the Board has voted to make a small increase to $100 per person for the full season. This will help with the fiscal crunch that we discussed with the chorus last May. The Board also voted to eliminate reduced dues for married couples and “per concert” pro-rated dues, except in extraordinary circumstances, like loss of employment/income. This new dues rate is in line with other choruses in the Boston Choral Consortium. Please let me know if you need to discuss your dues situation for the coming season.

3. Music Costs for November concert
I expect the music cost to be $20–$26, not including the Rindfleisch which most singers will have from the Bloch concert. I ordered the Janacek, Holst and Durufle scores from Octavo Music, through which CpM gets a Chorus America discount. I will confirm actual cost after I receive and review the invoices. The Dvorak score will come from a public domain site, and I need to price the printing and finishing costs.

4. Still need Summer Sings Volunteers! (Tickets and Refreshments)
We still need two ticket volunteers and two refreshment volunteers. Having two ticket volunteers is particularly important for this Monday, as Portia and I will be tied up in a meeting until about 7pm. Contact me if you can help out. Free admission for volunteers! Thanks!
