CpM 2010-2011 season brochure

Old South Church

Antonin Dvorák: Mass in D;
Leoš Janáček: Our Father;
Maurice Duruflé: Notre Père;
Gustav Holst: Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda (selections);
Andrew Rindfleisch: Kaddish Prayer.

2. Friday, December 17, 2010, 8 pm
Old South Church

A concert for the Holidays featuring the Boston premiere of Stephen Paulus's We Sing Thy Birth. With festive brass music by the Triton Brass Quintet, and our traditional carol sing-along.

3. Sunday, March 20, 2011, 3 pm
Old South Church

Gioachino Rossini: Petite Messe Solennelle. The Mass, completed just five years before his death, was Rossini's last major work. Like all of Rossini's music, it is melodic, spirited, and irresistibly engaging. “Petite” only in instrumental accompaniment—two pianos and harmonium—the Mass includes exquisite writing for the four soloists and chorus that make it a fitting climax to the life of the man considered the greatest Italian composer of his time.

4. Sunday, June 5, 2011, 3 pm
NEC's Jordan Hall

Igor Stravinsky: Symphony of Psalms, and other psalm settings, with the New England Philharmonic. Simultaneously majestic and passionate, Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms remains one of his most popular works. The work gives equal prominence to voices and instruments, and the unique orchestration replaces the violins and violas with two pianos and harp for an archaic and rhythmically potent sonority. The Symphony reflects a renewal of faith by Stravinsky, who had recently rejoined the Russian Orthodox Church, and it inexorably builds to a climax of timeless, beatific joy.
